Nuuk International Film Festival

Welcome to the film festival of the northernmost capital in the world!

Nuuk International Film Festival (NIFF) was founded in 2017 by Greenlandic filmmakers Pipaluk K. Jørgensen and Karsten Heilmann. It began as a curated program for the cultural festival Nuuk Nordisk, and soon grew into Greenland’s only annual film festival, held every September.

NIFF celebrates both Greenlandic and international cinema, with a special focus on films from Indigenous peoples worldwide. The festival combines a public-oriented experience with professional development opportunities, offering panel discussions, workshops, masterclasses, and networking platforms for filmmakers. It also engages Nuuk’s neighborhoods, schools, and institutions, making cinema accessible to audiences of all ages.

As Greenland’s film industry continues to grow – particularly with the establishment of the Greenland Film Institute – NIFF serves as a vital platform for local filmmakers to meet, collaborate, and showcase their work. We feature diverse programming, including films that rarely reach Greenlandic cinemas, and maintain dedicated children’s programs in partnership with local schools and cultural institutions.
Greenland may still be a young film nation, but Inuit storytelling spans thousands of years. Through NIFF, we offer our filmmakers the opportunity to reach new audiences in the Arctic and beyond.

Join us in celebrating cinema, culture, and storytelling at the top of the world. Enjoy the experience!
